Sunday Summary: Simply Perfect

Mary Balogh has finished another series, and in typical Michelle fashion I read the last book first. Sigh. I need to learn to get this series thing correct.

Balogh’s book Simply Perfect is just what one would expect from a historical romance. It is a bit of a reach. When Claudia Martin was 17 her heart was broken by her childhood love. Instead of settling for second best, she throws herself into her work and builds a school designed to teach young girls all the things they need to know to be successful in the ton society.

Perfectly content with her life, Claudia has no dreams of ever finding love again, that is until she meets Joseph, the Marquess of Attingsborough. In typical romantic history style, Claudia is determined to not fall for him to maintain her independence and lead a life far away from the high society of England.

Similarly, Joseph is betrothed to a woman he will never love and possibly never like. Doomed to a life of unhappiness, he falls for the lovely Miss Martin a women far outside his social circle.

While this kind of romance is a bit too cheesy for my liking, (he is a bit too perfect and she is a bit too idealistic and condescending for my tastes) it is the perfect book for anyone who loves a straight up romance novel. If you love the perfect heroine and the perfect hero who have no flaws or weaknesses – this is the book for you. The only thing I recommend? Start at the beginning of the series. You might enjoy the characters a bit more if you know their stories as well. Simply Unforgettable is the first book in the 5 part series and migh hav a bit more twists and turns, or it might be more like Simply Perfect – I’ll let you know if I check it out.
