Every family has their moments, their conversations that will go down in history as being unforgettable moments of hilarity. For my family, that conversation happened last night.
It all began with a text message. Innocent enough the text came from my mother. It said: “I love you 2 much 4 ever. I can’t wait to see you at Thanksgiving.”
Seeing as how I live 40 minutes from my parents and see them more or less on a weekly basis, I texted my mom back with: “Thanks, but I’m sure I’ll see you well before Thanksgiving.”
Mom immediately responds with, “I sent this to all of my wonderful children.”
Now my mom can be emotional, she loves us all a ton. But even for her, this pushes it to a little bit odd. So I called her – Here’s a conversation recap:
Me: Mom what was up with those crazy texts?
Mom: Well, I was watching this show and this woman had a kidnap code, and when her daughter got kidnapped she was able to do 1,2,4 on her hands on tv. You know I (1) will always love you 2 much (2) 4ever (4). 1,2,4. That way you’ll know I will always love you.
…… long pause (I’m contemplating how to respond) …….
Me: Mom. If I EVER get kidnapped (how old am I 5?) I am banking on you loving me and finding me. I’m pretty sure that’s what would get me through the ordeal. Wouldn’t it be more practical to have a kidnap code that when I make the call for the ransom money I say something like “Mom we tried to go to Walmart today.” Which means I am still in the state of Georgia, localize your search?
Mom: Well Michelle, I watch a lot of CSI so I know that the chances on me ever seeing you again are slim to none. So I need to concentrate on sending you my love.
Me: So I see the kidnap code and I am supposed to think you’ve given up hope and you think I am DEAD????
Mom: You should email your brothers and sister to tell them about the kidnap code so that they know what to do if they are ever kidnapped.
Me:….. long pause….. Mom I cannot participate in this craziness.
The best part was – when I called to tell her I was blogging this (out of fairness). She tells me that she is dead serious and still thinks this is a great idea.
You have to love mothers.
If I ever get kidnapped America, you now all know my kidnap code.
