Weekends in Atlanta are for Friends – Midtown Tavern

in Friends are Great, Life Lessons

We have apparently skipped spring here in Atlanta. The weather has spiked from a mere 40 degrees to the 80s seemingly overnight. People are outside in the park, restaurant patios are full and everywhere you look signs of a great summer are starting to appear.

If you’re like me, you’re probably looking out your window – wondering what in the world you are going to do this weekend – with so many options it can sometime feel overwhelming. That’s where this fantastic blog comes in. Written by a local Atlantan, Everything Midtown Atlanta is a great guide to everything that is Atlanta. Not only are there blog posts that sum up weekly restaurant specials and deals, but you can also find information about classes, events, festivals. Basically everything that makes Midtown one of my favorite places to be in Atlanta.

Last night KPres and I went out on the town (no we were not able to hit up any of the spots on the Everything Midtown list). We instead headed over to Midtown Tavern for a little Friday night karaoke. Keep in mind that I cannot carry a tune in a bucket. In fact, I cannot carry a tune in an ocean so karaoke is not for me. But I had seen the place a lot when I was grocery shopping and I had read about it numerous times on Yelp when checking out new places to go, so I decided it was time to try it out. I must say. I was an experience to say the least. The bar was virtually empty (a rarity for a bar in Atlanta) and we were able to snag a prime table outside while karaoke hopefuls belted it out on the stage inside.

Because we both had places to be early in the morning, we called it a night a little after 11:30 and began the walk back to my place (walking distance was one of the main reasons we decided to try the bar out) on our way home (Mom it’s probably best you stop reading at this point, it will ease your heart and save me the “Michelle I told you all about that city” lecture this weekend) we were asked for money, cat called which was great… (what it isn’t your life dream to be called “white chocolate”?) and solicited for sex by a man dressed as a woman. Needless to say, we will not be walking to the Midtown Tavern any time soon, if we ever even go back. What seemed to be a quiet evening of girl talk and drinks quickly spiraled down-hill into us practically jogging in heels down the road.

So I must say, if you’re ever going to head over to Midtown Tavern, take a car… or just don’t go. There are much better places in Atlanta to pay for overpriced beer and bad singing.
