The Help is on my list of top 10 books for all life. The characters virtually jump off the page in an explosion of emotion and passion and you can’t help but fall in love (or passionately hate) each and every one of them.
It’s 1962 in Mississippi. James Meredith has just be admitted to Ole Miss and racial tension is at it’s height. Skeeter has recently graduated with a degree in English and a passion to be much bigger than a wife, mother and member of the junior league. However she struggles with her emotions, unsure of how to go about channeling her writing. That is until a normal, everyday conversation amongst her closest friends sets her down a path that will forever change her life.
This book is amazing. Whether you’re from the north, south are black, white or somewhere inbetween – The Help (Kathryn Stockett) will speak to you in some way. I highly recommend everyone pick it up today.
P.S. This book is also being turned into a movie, so keep a look out for that as well.
