Two plays, two theaters, two very different themes, and yet – I loved them both.
Ok we’ll go in time order. On the 25th I had the opportunity to see Pageant – A Musical for work. I had no idea what to expect from a musical about a beauty pageant with an all male cast, but I can tell you this: I did not expect to love it. And love it was. I laughed, I cried (from laughter) I have seen it twice, and I loved it both times. It’s great and it’s happening at the 14th Street Play House now through October. It’s a must see with friends on a friday night. Not kid friendly.
Tonight my coworker Michelle (yes there are two Michelle’s at 360) invited me to go see Twist: An American Musical at the Alliance with her. Once again I went in knowing very little about the play and I really liked it. It is drastically different than Pageant, tackling the issues of interracial relationships and discovering who you are in a society where you don’t fit in. The set was really good, the cast extremely talented and overall I would recommend you check it out. I give it a 3.5 out of 5 stars. It was a solid opening night for Twist. Well done everyone.
