you want to be paid for your “opinion”?

Many bloggers aspire to reach the top levels of blogging. You know – the kind of blogger where people throw products and gifts your direction, begging for your opinion on these fun little toys. Sounds great doesn’t it? But the line between real opinion and paid advertisement can often be blurry. For example: someone sends you a package of diapers and asks you to use them. You’ll probably write an honest review and move on with your life. But what if the same company offers to diaper your kids for life if you endorse their product? Almost seems too good to be true…. after all, diapers are expensive.

But that to me is a problem (and the main reason why it is now illegal for bloggers to fail to disclose when they have been paid for a review). The diaper situation is a little extreme, but let’s ponder this hypothetical situation. Read the rest of this entry »

Bad Bloggers are like Bad Kissers

We’ve all been there. You know, sitting there on a date, waiting, hoping, looking forward to the kiss and then it comes – he leans in, your lips touch… and… you want to kill yourself. For some of of us, this is a more recent experience then for others. But the results are the same. You never forget the bad kissers of your life and their tales are often repeated over wine and dinner at girls night.

So here it is ladies in gents. The top 6 blogging (and of course kissing) mistakes made.

Mr. Too Much Tongue: You know the guy. The one who just keeps going in for the tongue, just jabbing and jabbing. No plan, no course of action, he just repeatedly sticks it in there, hoping it’s working. Why Do You Blog?

Throughout the course of history, both men and women alike have put a pen to paper and journal-ed their thoughts. Some were searching for knowledge, others were expressing feelings and some were just chronicling the events of the day, creating valuable resources for generations to come. No matter the reason, the desire to write and create has long since been ingrained into human nature. While many still prefer the simplicity of picking up a pen and a notebook to physically journal their thoughts, but many many more have turned to the internet to serve as a living chronicle of their lives. Just to show you how many of us there are out there, here are some simple stats. According to The State of the Blogosphere by Technorati:

  • More than 133,000,000 blogs have been indexed by Technorati since 2002
  • 77% of Internet users read blogs according to Universal McCann
  • 72% say they blog in order to share their expertise.
