fly away home: a book preview

I am currently reading Jennifer Weiner’s Fly Away Home and I am in love. It’s about a family that has been broken apart by bad decisions, selfish behavior and the general need to survive by any means possible. Weiner beautifully illustrates how the small choices we make in life, the unconscious decisions we make (whether we think they are right or wrong) have the power to influence us for years to come. It’s not until a scandal completely cracks this family’s foundation that they are truly able to love and appreciate each other in a way that you would have never thought possible. sizzling sixteen: a book review

I began the Janet Evanovich series when I was a mere grade school girl and I have dutifully kept up with her for the past 16 books, but I think the time has come for me to retire the series. Number 16 is boring, predictable and downright dull.

Things you knew from the first 15 books:

Stephanie Plum is a bounty hunter with a ridiculous group of friends

She can’t decide between two incredibly sexy, nice, caring, hot men (bitch poor girl)

She will blow up a car

She will hate her job and after years and years still doesn’t do it particularly well

She will do a lot of illegal things while the rest of the characters look the other direction

a book review: the help

The Help is on my list of top 10 books for all life. The characters virtually jump off the page in an explosion of emotion and passion and you can’t help but fall in love (or passionately hate) each and every one of them.

It’s 1962 in Mississippi. James Meredith has just be admitted to Ole Miss and racial tension is at it’s height. Skeeter has recently graduated with a degree in English and a passion to be much bigger than a wife, mother and member of the junior league. However she struggles with her emotions, unsure of how to go about channeling her writing. That is until a normal, everyday conversation amongst her closest friends sets her down a path that will forever change her life.

This book is amazing. Whether you’re from the north, south are black, white or somewhere inbetween – The Help (Kathryn Stockett) will speak to you in some way. I highly recommend everyone pick it up today.

P.S. This book is also being turned into a movie, so keep a look out for that as well.
