Tuesdays are for Technology: Evernote

Have you ever been sitting in the car, running out the door, seen a magazine or newspaper article and wished you had paper and pen to jot that information down on. If you’re like me you probably texted yourself a little reminder, added a note to your Google calendar or tryed some other workaround to remember your brilliant idea. While all of the above work, they are also slightly annoying. I hate emailing myself pictures or texing myself phone numbers, blog ideas or work thoughts. None of the information ends up the same spot and I always find myself accidently deleting or forgetting where I sent the information.

That was until I found Evernote. A downloadable app for just about any smart phone, Evernote allows you to capture just about any form of information you might need and uploads it to your notebook. You can login to your notebook from any computer and download / print / email / or share an Evernote, making it extremely easy and convient to find your information again. So You Work in Social Media? … What is that Exactly? Facebook?

For those of you in social media, I’m sure you’ve had that conversation about 1000 times. It goes something like this…

Stupid Person A: So what do you do?
Me: I work in public relations and social media marketing.
Person A: So what does that mean exactly? You Facebook?
Me: Yes, while you do really important things like excel spreadsheets, I sit around and play on Facebook all day. Social media marketing at it’s finest. Well not exactly…. long pause …. yes, I do Facebook.

Google Wave

So the wave is out. You can now “stream” content in one wave that can be edited by any person involved. I was gifted the wave today by my lovley little sister and I thought I would do a quick write up of my initial impressions.

  1. After my inital play session with the wave I feel as thought it’s a cross between Google Docs and Gchat. Only bigger like you’re gchatting in a conference room and you can’t video chat, which is annoying.
  2. Google Wave is only fun if everyone you know is on it. There is no point in having Google Wave if you only know one person.
  3. I haven’t delved that deep into it, but it feels more like an advanced IM system right now then it does a place to edit documents and things of that nature, which I think would be it’s biggest appeal. Read the rest of this entry »
